Lapham – Marquette at a Glance
Lapham – Marquette is a paired school, which has 2 campuses. Grades K-2 are housed at Lapham, Marquette’s sister school. Marquette currently serves 217 third, fourth and fifth grade students.
Lapham-Marquette Elementary Schools are a caring and understanding community of students and adult learners. We achieve academic success and promote personal growth for all students.
Marquette is located in the center of Madison’s east side isthmus neighborhood next to the Yahara River and a few blocks from Lake Monona. Lapham is also located on Madison’s east side with school boundaries stretching from Lake Monona to Lake Mendota and encompassing the Tenney Park area.
At Lapham, kindergarten and first grade have class sizes up to 22. Average class size ranges from 20 to 24 students in the second grade. Lapham’s Early Childhood program for 3 and 4-year-olds is the largest program in the city with 62 students enrolled. Lapham also has 5 sections of all-day kindergarten with class sizes at or under 17 students. Marquette has 3 classes in grade 3, and 4 classes in the fourth grade and 3 at fifth grade. The average class size is 25.
All students at Marquette participate in the Stress Challenge program. This includes such activities as learning to take the city bus, following a map, caving, and the low and high ropes course. During the school year, fifth grade students participate in the C.O.P.S (Classes On Personal Safety) program. The third and fourth grades participate in the S.A.V.E. (Student Anti-Victimization Education) program.
