Emerson East Neighborhood Information

The Emerson East Neighborhood was originally developed in the 1920's, after Madison's Central Marsh was drained and land became available for houses for workers in nearby factories, including Oscar Mayer and the French Battery Company. The area covered by the Emerson East Neighborhood Association includes about 2100 people living in a mix of owner-occupied and rental housing. This is a very affordable neighborhood that is safe, friendly, and diversified and is close to both Burr Jones & Demetral Fields. Neighborhood association info can be found at www.emersoneast.org.

TOP THREE reasons to buy local at the Farmers' Market:

  1. Buying Fresh, Eating Healthy. When you buy fresh produce based on the season you have the opportunity to eat foods that are harvested at their peak and the fresher the produce, the better it is for you!
  2. From the Farm to your Table. Buying directly from a Farmer is a good way to learn about what you are buying, how it was grown and it is the best way to support our local Farmers.
  3. Help the Environment. When you buy in a store that gets their produce from another state please remember that the cost to the environment includes the transportation, packaging and energy costs to keep the food fresh. When you buy from the Farmers you are helping save in many ways.

1 Vista Rd. - Regent Neighborhood

The neighborhood is bordered on the north and east by the University of Wisconsin campus, and within a mile of Lake Mendota. The eastern end of the neighborhood is anchored by the University of Wisconsin's Camp Randall football stadium and fieldhouse. On football Saturdays in the fall, the neighborhood is awash in Badger red and white. The central part of the neighborhood is quite a lively place. The Regent-Allen Neighborhood Commercial District has a cluster of neighborhood-oriented shops (coffee shop, food co-op, hair salon) and artistic retail galleries and shops. The western end of the neighborhood at Farley and University Avenue is anchored by Lakeside Commons shopping area and the commercial node at the intersection of Highland and University Avenue - both areas have a fine selection of eating establishments and local businesses. Stevens Park is located on the western end of the neighborhood. Many neighbors walk (or bike) and shop to support their local businesses. Hillington Green Park is one of those other neighborhood gathering places: kids playing in the summer to ice skating in the winter that makes living in this neighborhood special. Regent Neighborhood is home to two highly desired public schools in Madison: Randall Elementary and West High Schools. Both schools provide the neighborhood with a fun level of liveliness: kids walking to and from school, homecoming parades, and musicals and theater productions at our doorstep. We are a walkable and bikeable neighborhood with easy access to UW campus and hospital. The Southwest Bike path goes through the neighborhood as well of the new campus bike path, the latter is lighted with new solar-powered light fixtures.

Dunn's Marsh Neighborhood

The Dunn's Marsh Neighborhood Association, Inc. (DMNA) is a highly active organization serving the area located south of the West Beltline and Verona Road. The neighborhood lies partly in the City of Madison and partly in the City of Fitchburg providing a unique relationship and resources of both municipalities. Neighbors' concern for the environmental quality of Dunn's Marsh, located on the southern boundary of the neighborhood, was the driving force that began the neighborhood association in 1973. Today, residents can enjoy peaceful walks around the pond in the Dunn's Marsh conservancy. Another natural place to explore is the University of Wisconsin-Arboretum Evjue Pine Forest. Go for a ride or commute on the nearby Southwest Bike Trail, Capitol City Bike Trail, Badger State Trail, and Cannonball Trail. Nearby Marlborough Park hosts community gardens, and playground equipment. Annual neighborhood events include a Chili Fest in March, Dunn's Marsh Clean-Up, Dunn's Marsh Walks, and a Potluck Picnic/Campfire in Marlborough Park. Dunn's Marsh neighborhood is full of natural resources and activities!
